Latue Nightshade of Chile

Latua Phil. of the Nightshade Family

latua-pubiflora-griseb-baill

Latua pubiflora (Griseb.) Baill.

Location: Chile

The Latua plant is gorgeous, growing between 6 and 32 feet tall. It can have more than one main trunk and the bark is usually a red or brown color. The flowers almost always turn out downward bell in shape and have a large center diameter, as though the bell has “swallowed” a marble.

Both the leaves and fruit of the Latua nightshade have been proven to contain psychoactive numerous tropane alkaloids (and in high content too). Atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine can all be found.
