Scopolia Nightshade Hallucinogen and Aphrodisiac

Scopolia of the Nightshade Family

scopolia-carniolica

Aka Scopolia carniolica Jacques

Location: Asia, Mountainous and Hill Regions

This medium-green, busy herb can grow up to 3 feet and has large oval leaves and bell shaped purple or yellow flowers. The plant flowers in mid-to-late Spring and looks similar to henbrane flowers. The fruit, however small, is encapsulated with a double-style wall which harbors tiny seeds.

Scopolia has been used in witches brews (ancient times). The root is turned into a narcotic beer additive and traditionally used as an aphrodisiac. It also comes in handy for Slovenian women who use it to seduce men. The plant as a whole contains hallucinogenic alkaloids. Specifically, Scopolia contains atropine, hyoscyamine, scopoline, scopoloetine, scopolamine, and chlorogenic acid.
