Mitragyna speciosa
Mitragyna of the Rubiaceae (Madder) Family
Location: Asia (Primarily Thailand, Malay, Borneo, and New Guinea)
This tree is native to the tropics of asia and grows to be about 5-10 feet tall. Typically the plant stretches tall, upward towards the sky, representing a healthy stem and sports several oblique leaves of forked branches, also growing upwards. Flowers spawn in a golden yellow hue, hanging in clusters with accompanying winged seeds. Kratom is very closely related to the coffee plant.
Kratom is a versatile herb that provides stimulating effects in light doses, natural pain relief in medium doses, and sedating effects in heavier doses. It reactes with the opioid receptors in the brain, and thus has soothing effects that are often compared to opium or morphine…yet can have a cocaine type of stimulating effect in lower doses. The effects are so strong it can be felt within minutes. Natives chew the leaves, root or stem, or brew it into a tea. It can also be smoked, vaped, eaten or extracted.
