Tagetes of the Sunflower Family
Aka Tagetes lucida Cav.
Location: Warm and Tropical Regions of Central and South America, and Mexico
Tagetes lucida is a beautiful flower with a strong floral scent. It grows as a perennial and is usually only 1-2 feet in height. The few longer, slender leaves accent beautiful yellow or orange flowers measuring about half an inch a piece, spawning in clusters at the ends of each plant.
The Huichol tribe in Mexico are famous for employing the use of Yauhtli to induce visions. Yauhtli is smoked or turned into a drink along with fermented maize to create an intoxicating and enligthening ceremonial beverage.
