The Homalomena plant is a rather small plant and it usually does not even reach 6 inches in height. The root-like plants create small berries which contain seeds. The leaves are considered the psychoactive portion of the plant and are typically chewed or consumed to achieve desired effects.

Ereriba (Homalomena) is very commonly used in Papua New Guinea by natives to induce lucid dreaming. Shaman in the area, and people around the world, still use Ereriba to prompt visions and create in visual experiences. Some shaman use Ereriba to improve divination. It has long been used in traditional folk medicine.
