Maquira Aubl. Of the Mulberry Family
Maquira sclerophylla (Ducke)
Location: South America
The Brazilian Amazon produces a lot of Maquira and it is not too hard to find. They are 75 to 100 feet tall trees which yield fruit that are a sugary-brown color and smell like cinnamon. The berries are usually under an inch in diameter. On rare occassions, the tree can be seen with flowers.
Rape dos Indios is Brazil-indian for Indian Snuff and was made from the fruit of the Maquira tree. This snuff made for a really powerful hallucinogen.
