Yun-Shih (Caesalpinia)

Caesalpinia L.

identifying yun-shih hallucinogenic plant

Aka Caesalpinia Sepiaria Roxb.

Location: Warm and Tropical Regions of the World

Yun-Shih is commonly found in nearly all warm, tropical regions of the globe (in both hemispheres). Yun-Shih grows as a tenacious vine with incredible climbing ability. It is very commonly used as a hallucinogen in China. The roots, flowers and seeds of the vine all have recorded historical use throughout Chinese and folk medicine.

Caesalpinia has a special place in early, ancient Chinese medicine. It has been said that the flowers are able to produce a special ability to see spirits. It is also documented in many places that Yun-Shih makes it possible to talk to the spirits. As recorded, a lot of the herb is required to be consumed before these effects are seen. It has also been noted that too much consumption of Yun-Shih can cause one to “stagger madly.”
