Banisteriopsis caapi
Ayahuasca Ingredient
Location: Mexico, South America, Tropic Regions in the Americas, West Indies
Banisteriopsis plants are not hard to find. They are huge forest lianas which have been well known in the Amazon Valley for thousands of years. The bark and leaves of the plant are boiled or added cold to various hallucinogenic concoctions to alter the effects of the drink.
Although the effects of banisteriopsis may be less noticeable alone, they are an essential part of making a traditional hallucinogenic drink, Ayahuasca.
