5-HTP – A Natural Xanax Substitute That Works

5-HTP

What is 5-HTP and It’s Legal Status

5-HTP is also known by its full name, 5-Hydroxytryptophan or by “oxitriptan.” It is naturally occurring, an amino acid and a chemical precursor. It is most importantly, however, used for its creation of serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is responsible for mood and relaxation. More serotonin, typically means a more relaxed mood. 5-HTP is one of the most effective sedation ingredients in a lot of xanax-like supplements for that exact reason. 5-HTP is also legal in the United States, and sold over the counter (no prescription and not controlled). It is also legal in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and pretty much every where else around the world. Taking a closer look at 5-HTP can reveal more details about its use and effectiveness.

What is 5-HTP Supplement Used For?

5-HTP is very commonly sold for a variety of reasons. These are some of the more popular uses for 5-HTP…

  • 5-HTP is very commonly used to treat anxiety. It is able to battle anxiety so effectively because it provides a huge boost of serotonin, which greatly increases mood (favorably) in those who do not already have high serotonin levels.
  • 5-HTP is also used to treat depression. This is similarly because of its serotonin-increasing properties and ability to better regulate mood. Doctors have suggested 5-HTP to patients with depression. Many surveys and clinical research have indicated 5-HTP begins treating depression after 2-4 weeks of regular, daily use.
  • 5-HTP helps treat insomnia and sleep disorders, greatly raising the quality of sleep. It also helps one get to sleep easier. Some people report lucid and/or pleasant dreams.
  • 5-HTP has been used to treat ADHD (Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder). It has been known to greatly calm down a hyperactive mind.
  • 5-HTP has been used to treat obesity and significantly reduces appetite.
  • 5-HTP is also used to help treat a long list of other ailments. Studies are not conclusive, however, many people have turned to it for their fibromyalgia, menopausal symptoms, migraines, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Schizophrenia and a variety of nervous system disorders.

5-HTP formulas are almost always known to reduce stress and anxiety, whether combined with other ingredients, used in a supplement or taken by itself. Still, it may take a little experimenting to find the right 5-HTP supplement for each person.

5-HTP Used In Supplements For Relaxation (Legal Xanax Substitutes)

5-HTP definitely appears to be more effective as a Xanax substitute when it is combined with a few other herbs. Having an effective experience can take a little practice (trial and error). There are a lot of supplements however, which have already put together effective substitutes for Xanax that include 5-HTP as an ingredient. And many of the best supplements for anxiety and the promotion of relaxation seem to rely on 5-HTP to some extent in their formula. Pirate Botanicals makes a product called Pirate Chill which excellently implements 5-HTP with a few other anti-anxiety ingredients to create a truly relaxing, sedating effect. It is also an all-natural product (non-synthetic is the way to go, as it is always safer).

Is 5-HTP Safe For Long Term Use

Obviously taking too much of anything can be bad for anyone, however, healthy levels of 5-HTP, such as those found in most of the better anti-anxiety supplements, are both effective and generally regarded as safe. 5-HTP is considered strongly effective and side effects are rarely experienced with normal dosages. 5-HTP has been used by many people to permanently treat their anxiety or depression, and some people do use it for years on end with no complaints. Most people use 5-HTP for the mood boost, as it does provide a significant “up” and does typically make one feel a lot better. And it absolutely remains one of the most popular legal Xanax alternatives.
