Hikuli Mulato, Chilitos Fruit of Focus

Epithelantha Weber

Epithelantha micromeris

Location: Southwestern North America, Mexico

The Epithelantha cactus is often called a ‘false Peyote’, especially by the Tarahumara Indians of Chihuahua. It looks much like a Peyote, but has small flowers which grow from the center of the plant, being surrounded by wool and spines. There is a fruit within the center of the cactus that is called Chilitos.

The fruit within the cactus is commonly used by athletes (most notably runners in particular) for its incredible stimulating effects. It is also taken by medicine men, shaman and others for the increased focus and awareness it provides…even supposedly making their sight clearer (both in a literal, physical sense, as well as a spiritual sense).
